If ever there was one true superfood, it is broccoli. Broccoli brings tremendous benefits to health in general, but there are a couple of reasons why this is a potent detoxification ingredient.
1 Aside from vital vitamins, minerals and fibre, broccoli contains a sulphurous vegetable, and sulphur supports one of the main detoxification pathways.
2 Broccoli contains an important compound called indole-3 carbinol. When you eat broccoli, it gets turned into diindolylmethane or DIM for short. DIM is excellent for female hormone health because it increases the ratio of ‘good’ oestrogen to ‘bad’ oestrogen.
It’s a complicated picture, but essentially, DIM is great news for reducing some of the potentially harmful effects of too much oestrogen, and it cuts the risk of oestrogen-driven cancers.
